Retired journalist Bryan Gibson is waging a one-man war against dodgy drains in his home county of Cornwall, armed only with a camera and a garden gnome.

Bryan was so annoyed when his car was damaged by floodwater four years ago, allegedly owing to a lack of maintenance, that he set out to show Cornwall Council how many damaged drains they had on their patch. Since then he has taken more than 15,000 photographs of damaged and blocked drains, emailing them to the council.

Recently, he has taken to placing a garden gnome his pictures to mark the damaged areas. Despite Bryan’s efforts, Cornwall Council has stated “there is no significant problem” with blocked drains in the county.
